Needlefelted One-of-a-Kind 03/18/2009

Good Morning~

  • Fiddling with color and text etc. this AM. Trying to see how to work this blog in ernest! Haha. So this post may be amusing!
  • Why am I indenting?? I'm not sure..haha...
  • Oh well...on to the post. I tried needlefelting a few years back and even though I really enjoyed it, I never got back to it. At the moment, it was too time consuming~ so I said to myself...I will save that for the future.  Well, the future has arrived!

I recently came across this Wonderful antique shadow box. Although the frame is chippy (In my mind's eye, that adds to the charm), it was just perfect. The interior, which was once purple, has aged to the most beautiful brown tone.

But I would have to make something special for this box. Ahh....what about that needlefelting...I wonder...

So here is the finished piece~

I needlefelted the rabbit...right down to his oversized feet! The lamb has a sculpted clay face with inset eyes. the body is sewn from wool, stuffed, and then each curly lock is needlefelted to the body.

The crowning glory was finding the tiny old basket for my rabbit's arm. I tried new baskets, but they didn't look right. This old basket is a beauty!!

I was so pleased with this piece! It will be for sale in my Easter Offerings next Monday night~March 23rd.

Tommorow I will be posting a couple of New pieces that I am working on for Collin's Gift Shop in New Hampshire. If you haven't visited her website yet...you are in for a treat! All the details in tomorrow's post~ STAY TUNED!!
